Follow my blog with BloglovinWe grabbed lunch to go from Rhoda’s Tamales and headed for a shady spot at Lake Chicot State Park. Stopping at the park store for a couple of bottles of water, my love discovered Salted Carmel Moon Pies!
We found an empty picnic table facing the lake. With a cool breeze and a lovely view, we enjoyed our quiet time together and our little southern meal.
It was our first time to try Rhoda’s, but it won’t be our last. Those tamales had the right mix of texture and flavor with the right amount of heat and seasonings to make you eat more than you intended!
The building’s facade gives little clue to how it looks inside, but it was clean and nicely decorated with homey memorabilia.
Busy covering cupcakes in icing, the hostess didn’t move from her place in the dining area to take our order, choosing to just sorta holler over the cooking noise to find out what we wanted. She did eventually lean over the visitor – side of the counter to open the cash register. It felt like we were visiting family.
We ran into a couple from south east Kansas making their return visit to the little tamale shack. They came back on purpose! We are glad we stopped and know we will be making a return visit on purpose too.
